Volunteering
Volunteers can be considered the glue that holds a community together. Connecting with the community and making it a healthier place is for the common good of all of us. With that said, there are many diverse roles’ volunteers can perform when volunteering for Backpacks of Blessings. Below are just a few of the vast role volunteers can play in our organization: Attending the university? Need community service? Want to get involved? Just think, Backpacks of Blessings gives volunteers the opportunity to provide practical help and encouragement to foster children in these state authorized community-based foster care homes. The young adults in our programs will help in providing the needs of children that really have so Little Our volunteers will give time, talent and become treasures for the organization.

How to start:
- First steps: Fill out our volunteer form and set up a meeting with the person we will assign to interview you.
- Then on to training with the Backpacks of Blessings recruitment team to learn the directions and skills needed to carry out assigned tasks. Our Orientation Team will show our volunteers how they fit within the context of our organization. As you become part of the team, you will know that you joined the right team to change the future for these children. Events will be planned, donations will be coming in, volunteers will be assigned to local businesses, places of worship and other venues to introduce the organization to the community at large.
- By working with your university and the organization to find out the needs of the state-authorized community-based foster care home you will be assigned to the designated person in charge of that home for Backpacks of Blessings. This means meeting with them, seeing what the needs are to get these children what they need to re-enter the school system with all that is required.
- As you become more and more involved and enthusiastic about this selfless work, there will be many more opportunities to get involved in our worthwhile cause.

Our greatest hope for our volunteers is to gain experience and be able to use skills obtained from being involved to make this a great success, one that students will want to participate in. It is fun and rewarding to help others. There are many positive social interactions with people from different backgrounds to build long-lasting friendships and relationships with, not only with Backpacks of Blessings but also people living in the community. Building on helping others will eventually bring us together and our differences are what will make us even stronger.
Universities
As universities get on board with the organization, our student volunteers, called “Campus Ambassadors” will work closely with the Department of Social Work on campus or the administrative offices to raise the profile of Backpacks of Blessing and the great work being done.
Partnering with the university can provide internship opportunities for students and more support for our program. Students have the opportunity to gain professional experience through volunteer work and apply it in a real work setting. There will be a link on the university website directly to Backpacks of Blessings to be able to get the necessary information to become a volunteer. Keep in mind that volunteering has many advantages for everyone, however, there are special benefits for college students, such as community service hours and boosting your resume as well. Real-world experience is gained through improving communities and experiencing how to improve the lives of others.
